Teatro Guiniguada to Reopen?

After 10 long years of rebuilding and refurbishment, the reopening of this well known Las Palmas theatre appears to be in sight.

The announcement that the theatre is expected to reopen in early 2011 followed a visit to the site by the Mayor of Las Palmas and the head of the island government's Culture Department.

The theatre is being given an enhanced capacity of 450 seats and the stage has been enlarged by reducing the size of the orchestra pit. In so doing, the theatre's ability to stage a variety of different events has been enhanced. The revitalised theatre will form an important component in the city's bid for European Capital of Culture status in 2016.
